Event Overview

The Skyline Scramble is an endurance trail running event held at Skyline Park in Topeka, Kansas. Participants repeatedly run a single-loop course with the goal of completing as many laps as possible within a fixed time window. Events include a 12 HR individual race, a 6HR individual race, a 3HR individual race, a 12 Hour Team Relay, and a 2 Mile Kids Run.

Course Details

The course is a rugged 2.15-mile single-loop track on wooded trails at the south summit of Skyline Park. The loop includes rocks, roots, and boardwalks and features about 250 feet of elevation gain per lap. The course passes the highest point on Burnett’s Mound and remains open to the public during the event.

Race Formats

  • 3-Hour, 6-Hour, and 12-Hour Races: Participants run the same 2.15-mile loop as many times as possible within their chosen time limit. The runner who completes the most full loops wins.
  • 12-Hour Team Relay: Teams of three runners share one race bib to complete as many loops as possible in 12 hours. All three members must complete at least one loop.
  • 2-Mile Kids Race: Designed for children in grades K-8, this race consists of one full 2.15-mile loop. Participants are grouped into elementary (K-5) and middle school (6-8) divisions.

Logistics

Online registration closes on March 4, 2026. Packet pickup is available on March 6 at a local store or on race day at Skyline Park. Race day check-in begins at 5:45 AM. Parking is available at the park, with spaces for 12-hour runners closer to the start.

Rules and Notes

A designated area at the start/finish is available for personal aid and canopies. All runners receive a finisher award and race t-shirt. The top three male and female finishers in each timed individual event receive a custom award. Crew assistance is only permitted at the start/finish aid station. Participants must be at least 14 years old for the 3HR, 6HR, 12HR, and relay events. Pets are not allowed at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
