Event Overview

The Skyline Scramble is a timed endurance trail run taking place on March 7, 2026, at Skyline Park in Topeka, Kansas. The event features several race formats where participants run a fixed loop as many times as possible within a set time limit.

Race Formats and Distances

Participants can enter one of several timed events:

  • 3-hour individual race
  • 6-hour individual race
  • 12-hour individual race
  • 12-hour team relay (teams of three)
  • 2-mile kids race (for grades K-8)

All races use the same 2.15-mile loop course. The winner in each timed category is the individual or team that completes the most full loops within their allocated time window. The 12-hour team relay is a new format for 2026, where all three team members must complete at least one loop.

The Course

The course is a rugged 2.15-mile single-track loop through the wooded south summit of Skyline Park. It features rocks, roots, and boardwalks and passes the highest point on Burnett’s Mound. Each loop has approximately 250 feet of elevation gain. The course will remain open to the public during the event.

Logistics and Rules

Online registration closes on March 4, 2026. Packet pickup is available on Friday, March 6, at a local Fleet Feet store or on race day at Skyline Park starting at 5:45 AM. All runners must check in by 6:45 AM on race day.

Key rules include: no pacers or non-competitors on the course (crew assistance is only allowed at the start/finish area); participants must finish their final loop before the official end time for it to count; and littering will result in disqualification. The minimum age for the 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour, and relay events is 14.

Awards

All runners receive a finisher award and a race t-shirt. The top three male and female finishers in each of the 3-hour, 6-hour, and 12-hour individual events receive a custom award. The winning 12-hour relay team also receives awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
