5K For Foster Kids Run/Walk
The Philip S. Killoran Chapter of the National Honor Society at Sterling Heights High School partners with Friends of Foster Kids to present a community 5K run and walk that aims to raise awareness and funds for local foster children. The event is organized around outdoor activities that combine fitness with family-oriented programming.
Race activities and on-site features include a live DJ, a food truck, yard games, a spring craft area, face painting, a door prize drawing, and a surprise celebrity announcer. Representatives from Friends of Foster Kids, Impact One, and Macomb DHHS will be present. A Flower Power Costume Contest and awards for largest family or group, oldest participant, and youngest participant are part of the program.
The course is an out-and-back 5K designed to include families of varying ages and abilities. Strollers are welcome and pets are not permitted. A water station will be available at the halfway marker. Participants receive a t-shirt, a participation ribbon, an electronic chipped bib, a door prize ticket, and snacks after the event.
Donations of full sized hygiene items and school supplies for all ages are requested. A donation of five qualifying items earns an extra door prize ticket. The event runs rain or shine; attendees should dress for the weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
