5K For Foster Kids Run/Walk
The Philip S. Killoran Chapter of the National Honor Society at Sterling Heights High School and Friends of Foster Kids are hosting a community 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness and funds for foster children. The event is held at Sterling Heights High School, 12901 15 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48312.
The program includes in-person and virtual options. The in-person event is a 5K out-and-back course. Strollers are welcome and pets are not permitted. A water station will be located at the halfway marker. Participants receive a t-shirt, a participation ribbon, an electronic chipped bib, a door prize ticket, and post-race snacks.
Community features on site include a door prize drawing, a live DJ, a food truck, yard games, a spring craft, face painting, and a surprise celebrity announcer. Representatives from Friends of Foster Kids, Impact One, and Macomb DHHS will be present to share information about local foster care programs.
A donation drive accepts full-sized hygiene items and school supplies for all ages. A donation of five full-sized items earns an extra door prize ticket; donations are collected at the Friends of Foster Kids booth. A Flower Power Costume Contest offers first, second, and third prizes, plus awards for largest family or group registered, oldest participant, and youngest participant.
Fee schedule for the in-person event: Early Bird $25 from Jan to May 1; Pre-Sale $30 from May 2 to May 15; Race Day $35 on May 16. A virtual SUPPORTER option is available with a registration fee of $25. The event runs rain or shine; attendees are advised to dress appropriately for the weather.
