Forest Of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon
This trail running event is held annually in late March in the Forest of Dean. The Rotary Club of the Royal Forest of Dean organizes it, with support from the Forestry Commission and other local organizations. All proceeds are donated to charity.
The race serves as the British Trail Running Championships - Short Distance event. The winner becomes the British Trail Running Champion, and the top three male and female finishers receive special medals. It is also a qualifying race for the England Athletics Age Group Masters Trail Running program.
The measured half-marathon distance (13 miles 192.5 yards) starts and finishes at the Speech House Hotel. The course follows waymarked forest trails in a clockwise loop, described as having gentle inclines. The route is fully signed and marshalled, with mile markers and yellow paint on the ground.
Key logistics for the event include:
- Entry fees are £32 for UK Athletics-affiliated runners and £34 for non-affiliated runners, which includes a £5 non-refundable processing fee.
- Registration closes on a specified date; late entries may be available at a higher cost.
- Runners receive a race bib with an integrated timing chip. Gun timing is used for official results, with chip timing for personal performance.
- The route includes three water stations at approximately 5 km intervals. Road running shoes are acceptable footwear.
A comprehensive race pack with course maps and other information is emailed to runners after registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
