About the race
The Flying High Half Yarder is an endurance event held at Woodlands Homestead in Woodlands Historic Park near Melbourne Airport. The format adapts the Backyard Ultra concept into shorter, repeated laps where participants must complete each circuit on a strict schedule.
Course and format:
- 3.35 km loop
- Complete each lap within 30 minutes
- New departure every 30 minutes
- Miss the next departure and you are eliminated
At the end of each lap, all participants who completed the lap remain tied. The event continues in this cycle until only one participant remains. The organisers describe the event as a contest of time management, endurance and mental resilience rather than a conventional mass-start race.
Location and community contributions: The event takes place at Woodlands Homestead, Woodlands Drive, Greenvale VIC 3059. Trailsplus donates AUD 1 per participant to Canteen, the Australian organisation supporting young people living with cancer. Trailsplus reports cumulative donations exceeding AUD 80,000. In 2025 there were 180 competitors and a total AUD 250 donated to Canteen, including AUD 70 in online runner donations.
Additional information: The event offers different ticket tiers and a premium price change on 10th August. Several outdoor and running brands are listed as sponsors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
