Flatwoods 5K
The Flatwoods 5K is a chip-timed 3.1 Miles running race held on a scenic limerock loop road around UF's Austin Cary Forest (10625 NE Waldo Rd, Gainesville, FL 32609). The course is accurately measured but not USATF certified and includes mile markers. A water station is located at the halfway point, and post-race refreshments are provided.
Race proceeds support forestry education and outreach. The event uses chip timing provided by Start2Finish Race Management. The unpaved road permits strollers, and parking plus the starting line will be approximately 2 miles (about a 5 to 8 minute drive) from the main gate on Waldo Rd.
Registration opens April 10, 2026 at 10:00 and early registration closes October 28, 2026 at 23:59. The entry fee is $20; runners 12 years and under race for free. A race t-shirt is available for an additional $15, with shirt orders closing October 18. On-site registration is available.
Early packet pickup is scheduled Friday, October 30 from 16:30 to 18:30 at First Magnitude Brewing Company (1220 SE Veitch St, Gainesville, FL 32601). Race day packet pickup is available at the Austin Cary Forest from 07:00 to 08:15.
Pine cone trophies made from native longleaf, loblolly and slash pine cones are awarded to top open and masters finishers, plus the top three in each five-year age and gender group. All runners 14 years or younger receive an award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
