Events
The First Try Triathlon is a multisport event held on a Saturday in June. It takes place at Byram Lake's Clover Beach in Linden County Park. The event features four different race categories: two for adults (16-99 years) and two for youth (12-15 years). Participants start in small groups called waves, which begin three minutes apart.
Course
The triathlon follows a sprint-distance format.
- Swim: A 300 yard out-and-back course in Byram Lake.
- Bike: An 11.3 mile loop starting from the beach parking lot transition area, heading south through Argentine before returning.
- Run: A 2 mile out-and-back route on a bike path from the transition area.
The use of a helmet is required for the bike segment. Safety kayaks are present along the swim course for athletes who request assistance.
Registration and Rules
A United States of America Triathlon (USAT) membership is required to participate. A one-day membership can be purchased during registration. There is no registration available on the day of the event, and registration transfers are not permitted. Refunds are only issued if the event is cancelled for reasons other than weather.
Awards
All adult finishers in the First Try and Fast Try categories receive a finisher's medal. Age group awards are given only to the top three finishers in each age group for the Fast Try event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
