Firelane Trail Trial
The Firelane Trail Trial is a time trial race held on Firelane 1 in Forest Park, Portland. The event follows a format where groups of twelve participants start every ten minutes. Because it is a time trial, runners do not know their standings relative to others until the results are compiled.
The race course is a 4.45-mile roundtrip out-and-back route. It begins at the lower trailhead near NW St. Helens Road and proceeds entirely along Firelane 1 to the top gate before returning to the start. The course includes 1,266 feet of total elevation gain and loss, with some sections reaching a grade of over 20 percent. The trail crosses both the Wildwood and Leif Erikson trails. The use of poles is not permitted during the race.
