Fire Ball Half and 4 Mile
The event is a pair of trail races held at Mack Dick Pavilion in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon, TX. The courses use a mix of surfaces, including smooth single track, sand, and rock, with several short but steep technical ascents and descents. Both courses head west onto the Comanche trail.
Distances
- Half marathon
- 4 mile loop on the Comanche/Kiowa trails
The half marathon route goes further into the canyon and passes red rock walls, bluffs, and cottonwood trees beside a stream. One aid station serves the half marathon only and is located approximately halfway at Mesquite. The event is cupless; participants must carry their own bottle, pack, or cup for refilling. The aid station provides water, an electrolyte drink mix, soda, pickle juice, gels, fruit, and assorted snacks.
Packet pick-up is available on days prior to race day and at the Mack Dick parking lot on race day. Awards are given for overall and masters winners, plus standard age-group places from 14 and under up to 80 plus. Race policies note no dogs on course, trekking poles are allowed, pacers are not permitted, headphones are not permitted, and drop bags are unsecured in a grassy area. The registration fee includes a hot post-race meal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
