Fairmont Sunset Mile
The Fairmont Sunset Mile is a downhill road race in Fairmont, West Virginia, hosted by the Fairmont State cross country program. Runners start at the top of Morgantown Avenue and finish inside Palatine Park. All registration proceeds benefit Fairmont State XC.
The event includes two distances:
- One mile
- Kids 400
Entry details listed by the organizer include a one mile entry fee of $20 with the first 100 one mile registrants receiving a branded tote bag. The kids 400 entry fee is $5 and all children receive a prize. A prize purse is offered to the top three men and top three women with awards of $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place. First place male and female Fairmont State XC alumni will receive awards.
Race day registration and bib pick up take place near the boat ramp at Palatine Park. There are no shuttles between the start and finish lines; participants may park at Palatine Park and warm up to the start or use street parking in nearby residential neighborhoods. The event is part of the Marion County Running and Walking Club race series. Perks for participants include a pizza serving for all, a beer ticket for those 21 and older for the post race party at Stumptown Ales, and race day photos.
