EXTORTION 17 Memorial Run/Ruck - Shadow Events
This series of shadow run and ruck events takes place from July 18 to August 29, 2026 and is organized under the Joggin’ for Frogmen effort. The series remembers the 31 U.S. service members who died when the CH-47 Chinook call sign EXTORTION 17 was shot down on August 6, 2011.
The event format includes both running and rucking options. Distances are centered on the 3.1 mile distance that began as a single event in San Diego and later expanded into a worldwide set of memorial activities. The events are listed in multiple U.S. locations, including Sanford, FL; Leeds, ME; Tacoma, WA; El Paso, TX; and Burbank, CA.
The stated purpose is to activate communities to honor the sacrifices of service members and veterans and to support the families of the fallen.
