Event Overview
The Essex Winter Midweek Series 2025/26 No.10 - Upminster is a midweek street orienteering event. It will take place on Wednesday, 4th March. The event can be entered as a standalone activity or as part of a ten-event winter series.
Courses
Two course formats are offered:
- Long Score (60 minutes)
- Short Score (40 minutes)
The courses are mostly on streets, with possible route choices across playing fields and open areas. Controls will mainly be fire hydrants or other street furniture.
Entry Details
Entry fees are £4.00 for seniors and £2.00 for juniors (under 21). An additional £1.00 levy applies for participants who are not members of British Orienteering (BOF).
Event Format and Series
The event uses the MapRun app for electronic timing; participants must have the latest version installed. Non-competitive manual scoring may be available.
For those participating in the series, points are awarded based on finishing times adjusted using an age and gender handicap system. A participant's best six results from the ten-event series count towards their final score. For some events, an "Anytime" catch-up option is available for two weeks after the event date via MapRun, subject to a time penalty, though running on the scheduled night earns bonus points. Full results are published on the SOS and HAVOC websites.
Important Notes
Start times are between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM. The specific start and finish location is listed as "TBA" (To Be Announced). Newcomers are welcome, and help is available.
Safety & Equipment
Participation is at participants' own risk. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. As the event takes place in the dark, bringing a torch or head torch is recommended. High-visibility clothing is also strongly advised. Participants will be required to cross roads and should exercise due care, as some roads may not have pavements. They should also be aware of and give priority to other path users like dog walkers and cyclists. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
