Eskdale Mixed Fell Relay
The Eskdale Mixed Fell Relay is a club team fell-running relay hosted by Black Combe Runners in the Eskdale valley, Lake District. The event uses the field opposite the Woolpack Inn for start and finish and comprises four legs over rough, steep and unflagged fell terrain.
The total route is approximately 23.8 miles / 38.3 km with about 7,530 ft / 2,295 m of ascent. The four legs are roughly:
- Leg A: ~4.0mi / 6.4km, ~1,200ft / 365m climb
- Leg B: ~7.2mi / 11.6km, ~2,900ft / 880m climb
- Leg C: ~7.6mi / 12.2km, ~2,130ft / 650m climb
- Leg D: ~5.0mi / 8.0km, ~1,300ft / 400m climb
Each leg must be run by a pair who run together and visit mandatory checkpoints using a dibber to record visits. GPS is not permitted. Competitors must be competent navigators, self-sufficient in mountain conditions and able to navigate with map and compass in poor visibility. The courses are not flagged and this is not a trail race.
Teams must be mixed teams of eight with the following composition: one male and one female in each of the MSEN (18-39), MV40 and WV40 (40-49), MV50 and WV50 (50-59), MV60+ and WV60+ (60+). Entry is limited and priority is given to clubs with fell experience. Entry fee is £130 per team. Non-competitive mixed teams are accepted but are not eligible for prizes.
