Eskdale Mixed Fell Relay
The Eskdale Mixed Fell Relay is a club team fell running relay held in Eskdale in the Lake District and hosted by Black Combe Runners. The race is for mixed teams of eight runners and comprises four legs that start and finish opposite the Woolpack Inn near Boot. The total route is approximately 23.8 miles / 38.3 km with about 7,530 ft / 2,295 m of ascent.
Each team must be divided into four pairs, with each pair running one leg together. All runners must be competent navigators, self-sufficient in mountain terrain, and familiar with fell running. GPS devices are not permitted; map and compass navigation is required. The course is not a trail race, it will not be flagged, and mandatory checkpoints must be visited by both runners using the dibber to record splits. Random kit checks will take place during the day.
Team eligibility requires specific age-category composition and club membership. Non-competitive mixed teams of four men and four women may enter but will not be eligible for prizes. Entry is limited and priority is given to clubs with proven fell experience. Entry fees are collected per team and proceeds support St Bega's Primary School in Eskdale. Basic camping and parking are available in the event field for a fee, cash only. A small marquee and limited changing facilities will be provided.
