Course and participant rules
The course starts and finishes at the Virginia War Memorial and follows city streets to cross the pedestrian bridge around Belle Isle, returning up Brown’s Island Way to the memorial. Participants will encounter hills, paved sidewalks, and gravel paths. Strollers and dogs are permitted.
The ruck division requires participants to carry a weighted rucksack or equivalent to qualify for competitive awards: females at least 25 lbs, males at least 35 lbs. Weighted vests and plate carriers count. Law enforcement officers and firefighters in full turnout gear qualify. Rucks are weighed before the event and must meet the weight standard for the duration. Water bladders that can be emptied and children do not qualify as weight. Awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers in both run and ruck divisions; there are no age brackets in the ruck division.
Virtual participation
Virtual participants may complete their 5K run or ruck during Military Appreciation Month (May 1 - May 31) and submit results; virtual entries are eligible for a drawing for a GO RUCK and will receive shipped swag and finisher items.
