11th Annual Equal Access Birmingham Heart + Sole 5K
The 11th Annual Equal Access Birmingham Heart + Sole 5K is an in-person fundraising race organized to support Equal Access Birmingham (EAB), a free medical clinic staffed by medical students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine. Proceeds will support the operations of EAB through the EAB Gift and Endowment Fund to provide free medical care, medication, and health education to medically uninsured or underinsured residents of Birmingham.
The event starts and finishes at the parking lot of Crestline Elementary, 3785 West Jackson Blvd, across from Mountain Brook Community Education. The course distance is 3.1 miles (5K).
On-site features include a warm-up led by Battle Republic Fitness Studio with free class passes, music provided by a DJ, a costume contest with prizes, and an after party (details to be announced). Race packets and T-shirt pick-up take place at Volker Hall (1670 University Blvd, Birmingham) on Friday, November 6 from 10:00 to 15:00; additional distribution will be available before the race with check-in starting at 08:00 on race day.
EAB operates weekly primary care clinics and Saturday specialty clinics offering services such as reproductive health, mental health, dermatology, ophthalmology, optometry, and urology.
