End of the Road Half Marathon & One Tunnel 4 Miler
The End of the Road Half Marathon and One Tunnel 4 Miler is held in Waterfall, Pennsylvania. This event takes place on an abandoned stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike that was bypassed in 1968 and has not seen vehicle traffic for nearly 50 years. The course features a combination of rolling rural roads, mountain scenery, and long stretches through dark tunnels.
Participants can select from several distance options over the course of two days:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon) - Available on both Saturday and Sunday.
- 4 Miles - Available on Sunday.
- 26.2 Miles (Road Closed Rambler Challenge) - Half marathon completed on both Saturday and Sunday.
- 17.1 Miles (Tunnel Traveler Challenge) - Half marathon on Saturday and the 4 Miler on Sunday.
The course includes five miles of running within tunnels, and participants are required to use a headlamp or flashlight. For the half marathon distances, official pacers are provided. The event also offers an economy registration package for those who prefer to race without receiving a medal or race shirt.
The event supports The Old PA Pike in their efforts to convert the abandoned turnpike into a permanent greenway. Additional activities include a movie night on the turnpike on Saturday evening. For those unable to attend in person, virtual race options are available across all distances using a tracking app. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
