End of the Road Half Marathon and 4 Mile
The event takes place on the abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike near Waterfall, Pennsylvania. Runners pass through multiple long tunnel sections and run under a canopy of autumn foliage on a roadway that was bypassed in 1968.
Distances offered include:
- Half Marathon: Saturday and Sunday, includes five miles of tunnels
- One Tunnel 4 Miler: Sunday only, 2.4 miles of tunnels
- Two-Day Challenge: two consecutive days, half marathons or half plus 4 mile
Each day has a participant cap of 600 to limit field size. A headlamp or flashlight is required to navigate the dark tunnels. Event features noted by the organizer include a Movie Night on the Turnpike and themed or costume elements during the runs.
The organizer’s policies state that if the race is canceled for reasons beyond their control, refunds will not be issued but race packets, including shirts, will be made available at a location to be determined. No refunds are issued within 30 days of the event; earlier requests may be eligible for a 50 percent refund of the entry fee excluding processing fees. Entries cannot be deferred to another year. Entries may be transferred to another individual for a $5 fee and tshirt size cannot be changed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
