Event Overview

The End of the Road Half Marathon & One Tunnel 4 Miler takes place on October 24–25, 2026 in Waterfall, Pennsylvania. The event uses a section of the abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike, a highway bypassed in 1968. The course features two long, dark tunnels and runs during the peak of autumn foliage.

Course and Distances

Participants can choose from two main race distances and two multi-day challenge events.

  • Half Marathon: A 13.1-mile course that includes approximately five miles of running through tunnels, combined with rolling rural roads and mountain scenery.
  • One Tunnel 4 Miler: A 4-mile course that includes running through one of the abandoned tunnels.
  • Two-Day Challenges: The 26.2 Road Closed Rambler involves running the Half Marathon on both Saturday and Sunday. The 17.1 Tunnel Traveler involves running the Half Marathon on Saturday and the 4 Miler on Sunday.

Additional Information

A headlamp or flashlight is required for the tunnel sections. The event includes official pacers for the Half Marathons. There is a Movie Night on the Turnpike scheduled for Saturday evening. An Athlete Guide is provided with details on parking, schedule, and course maps. Packet pickup is available at the Holiday Inn Express in Breezewood, Pennsylvania. The event supports The Old PA Pike's efforts to turn the abandoned turnpike into a permanent greenway. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
