Event overview
The Wagon Wheel Freedom Run/Walk is a 5K run/walk/stroll offered as an on-site event and a virtual option. Registration opens July 1. The on-site event is scheduled for November 7, 2026. The virtual event window runs from September 11 to November 11. The on-site route starts and ends at the All Veterans Memorial (931 S Commercial St, Emporia, KS 66801) and runs through the Flint Hills. The course will be completely on gravel, weather permitting. The event takes place annually in November.
Awards and participation
On-site participants compete for overall and age-group awards. The overall top three male and top three female finishers receive custom trophies. Top three male and top three female finishers in each age category receive Emporia Main Street gift certificates. The age categories are 12 and under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60 and over. Virtual participants may complete any 5K route during the virtual window; virtual finishers receive event swag and are eligible for award opportunities. Organizers encourage virtual routes that start, finish, or pass a local Veterans memorial, park, or monument. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
