Wagon Wheel Freedom Run/Walk
The Wagon Wheel Freedom Run/Walk is a 5K run, walk, or stroll held as part of Emporia Freedom Fest. The on-site event starts and ends at the All Veterans Memorial in Emporia, Kansas (931 S Commercial St). The on-site course runs through the Flint Hills and will be entirely on gravel, weather permitting. A course map is provided for the on-site route.
A virtual option is available; participants may complete a personal 5K route anytime between September 11 and November 11. Virtual finishers receive event swag and are eligible for awards and acknowledgements similar to on-site participants. Virtual participants are encouraged to select routes that start, finish, or pass a local veterans memorial, park, or monument and to submit proof of completion and a photo to the event organizer. Local virtual finishers may collect swag in person after the event; out-of-town finishers will have swag mailed.
Registration for the event opens July 1. The in-person event date is November 7, 2026. Awards are given to on-site participants only: custom trophies for the top three male and female overall finishers and Emporia Main Street gift certificates for the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Age categories are 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
