Wagon Wheel Freedom Run/Walk
The Wagon Wheel Freedom Run/Walk is a central component of the Emporia Freedom Fest held in Emporia, Kansas. The event features a standard course distance of 5 km and allows for various modes of participation, including running, walking, or strolling.
The in-person event starts and finishes at the Emporia All Veterans Memorial located at 931 S Commercial St. Participants traverse a route through the Flint Hills area. Under favorable weather conditions, the course is composed entirely of gravel surfaces. In addition to the physical event, a virtual option is available where participants may select their own 5 km route within a specified multi-week window.
The event structure includes several categories and honors for participants:

For the on-site event, awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, who receive custom trophies. Performance awards are also provided for the top three male and female finishers in various age categories, ranging from 12 and under to 60 and over. These age group winners receive gift certificates to local Emporia businesses. All participants who complete the event receive swag bags.
Participants have the opportunity to participate in honor of a veteran by providing a name during registration. Names are displayed in a walk of honor during the associated expo. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
