Emperor's Challenge
The Emperor’s Challenge Mountain Race is a sporting event held in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. It takes place within the Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Global Geopark, an area spanning geological heritage of international significance. The race is managed by the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society (WNMS), a local organization that maintains the regional trail networks and wilderness facilities.
The competition is recognized as the largest volunteer-organized race in British Columbia. It welcomes up to 1,000 participants annually, including runners, hikers, and children. Participants navigate a mountain course with the opportunity to compete for gold medals.
The event is set against a backdrop of diverse natural features, including mountains, waterfalls, and unique geological formations. The trails used for the race are part of a broader network of non-motorized recreation routes located within the traditional ancestral territory of the Dunne-za, Saulteau, Tse’khene, Cree, and Metis peoples.
