EMC DAM to DSM
The EMC DAM to DSM is a long-standing running tradition in central Iowa that has seen over 135,000 participants since its inception in 1980. The event offers two primary ways to participate:
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- Virtual DAM Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
The course begins at the Saylorville Dam in Polk City, where runners can see the downtown Des Moines skyline in the distance. After crossing the dam, the route heads south through the rural fields of Polk County. Participants continue under the Morningstar bridge over I-35 and enter the Northside Neighborhoods.
The final stretch of the race follows the Des Moines River at Birdland Park and leads into the heart of downtown Des Moines. The journey concludes as runners cross the Des Moines River and pass the World Food Prize Building. The finish line is located near Cowles Commons and the Des Moines Civic Center.
For those unable to attend the physical race, a virtual option is available. Virtual participants can complete their distance during a window starting the Saturday before the main event and ending on race day. Registration for the in-person event typically opens nearly a year in advance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
