EMC DAM to DSM : Polk City to Downtown Des Moines
EMC DAM to DSM is a half marathon event that traces a course from the Saylorville Dam area into downtown Des Moines. The event has been held since 1980 and, according to the event information, more than 135,000 runners have completed the course since its inception.
Runners start at the Saylorville Dam area near 8250 Horseshoe Road in Polk City, IA. After crossing the dam, athletes continue south through fields and rural areas of Polk County, traverse I-35 at the Morningstar bridge, pass through Northside neighborhoods, and run along the Des Moines River at Birdland Park. The course enters downtown Des Moines, crosses the Des Moines River and passes the World Food Prize Building before finishing near Cowles Commons across from the Des Moines Civic Center. The race offers an in-person half marathon event that is open to ages 11 and older, and a Virtual DAM Half Marathon option. Entry fees listed on the event page show a base price of $90 with a scheduled price increase after March 1, 2026; a City of Des Moines trail use fee of $1.00 is also listed.
