Sap Run Scramble LPS
The Sap Run Scramble takes place at the Embark Maple Farm in Cashton, Wisconsin. The event is held in the maple woods during the syrup harvest season. Participants navigate a course that includes old logging roads, dry washes, deer paths, and steep hillsides. The terrain is often off-trail and requires way-finding using ribbons and course markers.
The event features two primary formats:
- Foodie 5K Scramble: A distance of 5 km with snack stops featuring maple-based food and drinks.
- Last Person Standing: A loop-based ultra where participants have one hour to complete a 5 km lap.
The Last Person Standing format involves a loop with approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain. A new lap starts every hour on the hour. The competition continues until only one participant can complete a full loop within the allotted one-hour time limit.
As the race occurs on a working farm, the course is often muddy and slippery. Lighting is not provided on the trails, so a headlamp is necessary for those continuing into the night. Post-race activities at the farm include wood-fired pizzas, beverages, and live music at the base camp area. Well-behaved pets on leashes are permitted on the farm grounds and in the woods, though they are restricted from food processing areas.
