Sap Run Scramble
The Sap Run Scramble is a maple-woods event offering a trail 5K and a Last Person Standing format on the same route. The course is a rugged, often slippery and muddy loop through the Embark Maple Woods during syrup season. It follows old logging roads, dry washes and deer paths, and at times is off-trail, so participants should watch for course markers and terrain changes.
Two options share the route:
- 5K with maple-based snack stops along the course and food, music and a bonfire afterward.
- Last Person Standing where entrants must complete a 5K lap with about 1000 ft of ascent within one hour to continue; laps repeat hourly until only one competitor has completed every loop in the required time.
The farm provides wood-fired pizzas and beverages after the scramble; one pizza and one beverage are included with adult admission. Youth admission and family admission have different inclusions and pricing; children 10 and under may attend free. Rustic camping is available on the farm with basic amenities: a porta-potty, water jugs and a community fire. There are no power hookups.
Recommended equipment includes sturdy trail shoes, hiking poles, a water bottle and a headlamp for Last Person Standing participants. The event is held at the Embark Maple Farm in Cashton, WI on March 20, 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
