Elk Valley Ultra - July 25, 2026
The Elk Valley Ultra, in its sixth year, is a high-vertical trail race in Fernie, British Columbia. The main event is a 50 km course with 3,000 m of ascent, with Start/Finish at James White Park. A combo option adds the Headwall Hustle, a 15 km race with 840 m of ascent, Start/Finish at Fernie Alpine Resort the following day.
The 50 km route is described in three legs. Leg 1 climbs over Mt. Fernie, follows Rocky Road to Island Lake Lodge and passes through Old Growth Forest. Leg 2 follows the old Rail Trail, climbs Gorby and moves through loamy provincial park trails. Leg 3 includes a final climb across the front of Mt. Fernie and a steep descent to the finish. The Headwall Hustle climbs through Cedar Bowl to the base of the Headwall, traverses into Timber Bowl and finishes with a descent to the finish area.
Entries for the 50 km are capped at 200 racers. Categories listed are Male, Female and Non-Binary, with age groups noted as 19, 19-49 and 50+. Competitors aged 19 who wish to race the 50 km must contact the Race Director before registering. Entry fees follow Early Bird and Regular pricing for adults and youth, and a separate combo fee schedule. Included race services: event T-shirt, finish-line BBQ and beer, finisher medals and category trophies, free racer photo downloads, fully stocked aid stations, and a donation to the Fernie Trails Alliance.
