Elk Valley Ultra
Elk Valley Ultra is a seven year trail event in Fernie, BC, organized by Stag Leap Running Co and scheduled for July 24, 2027. The main event is a high-vertical ultra roughly covering 50 km with about 2,700 m of ascent; the course is subject to change based on land use permissions.
The route is described in three legs. Leg 1 climbs Mt. Fernie, follows Rocky Road to Island Lake Lodge, then passes through an Old Growth Forest. Leg 2 follows an old Rail Trail, climbs Gorby and continues on loamy provincial park single track. Leg 3 returns across the front of Mt. Fernie and finishes after a steep descent.
A combo option adds the Headwall Hustle the following day, a 15 km route at Fernie Alpine Resort with about 840 m of ascent. The Headwall Hustle includes climbs through Cedar Bowl to the Headwall and a traverse to Timber Bowl for a descent to the finish.
Categories and key registration details: the 50 km fields are limited to 200 racers, with Male, Female and Non-Binary categories and age divisions <19, 19-49, and 50+. Youth runners under 19 must contact the Race Director before registering. Entry fees vary by early bird and regular periods; shirts are ordered by May 31 and sizes are not exchangeable.
Included for entrants are a race shirt, finish line BBQ and beer, medals and category trophies, free race photography downloads, fully stocked aid stations, and a donation to the Fernie Trails Alliance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
