Electrical Box Art Quest
This is a self-guided urban art quest and group-run style outing to find painted electrical boxes around Ithaca, NY. Participants receive turn-by-turn directions and a .gpx route file to load into watches. The event is for people traveling by foot, either running or walking, and the start and finish are at Triangle/Thompson Park on North Cayuga Street in Ithaca. The event date is May 1, 2027. Pricing options are $15 for a finisher’s patch, with $5 of that going to Ithaca Murals, or free registration with no swag and an option to donate separately.
Distances and elevation options:
- 10K / 160 ft elevation
- 11 miles / 550 ft elevation (option 1)
- 11 miles / 830 ft elevation (option 2)
- 14.8 miles / 960 ft elevation
Each distance route includes between 30 and 65 electrical boxes to view. Participants may lengthen or shorten their route during the day; there is no event cut-off. Aid stations are not provided, though there are many places to buy food and drink along the routes. Free all-day parking is available around Thompson Park. An after-party will take place at a local brewery; exact location is to be determined.
The routes also pass additional murals painted on buildings. The 2026 inaugural quest had thirteen participants; the group met afterwards at Liquid State and FLRC donated $70 to Ithaca Murals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
