Turkey Trot 2026 : Ithaca, NY
The Turkey Trot is the 53rd annual prediction run held in Ithaca. The event uses a roughly 5.5-mile course where participants predict their finish time and are not allowed to use watches or other timing devices. Winners are those who come closest to their predicted time.
The course is roughly half paved road and half trails and grass. The route goes up into Cayuga Heights via a short, steep dirt path, descends Remington Road, follows the Waterfront Trail around Stewart Park, loops around Newman Municipal Golf Course, and returns via the bird sanctuary. Shortcuts are allowed and wayfinding signs and experienced participants commonly indicate the route.
Participation is free but requires online registration. All runners wear custom race bibs that are scanned at the finish. The event is a fundraiser for Loaves and Fishes of Tompkins County; donations may be made during registration or in person, with a suggested donation of $10 per person. The club notes that sweatshirts are available in person.
Facilities and safety notes: parking is in the lot between Ithaca High School and the tennis courts off Cayuga Street, and bathrooms are available inside Ithaca High. There are no changing facilities or showers. The course crosses an active railroad track and includes roads open to traffic; course marshals assist with crossings but participants must remain alert.
The event is organized by the Finger Lakes Runners Club and is insured by the Road Runners Club of America. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
