Eastnor Castle Backyard 8hr and 8hr Relay
The Eastnor Castle Backyard event takes place at Eastnor Deer Park in Herefordshire. The race is set within a parkland environment, featuring views of the historic castle and the British Camp Iron Age hill. The course follows a 4.167 mile figure-of-8 loop consisting of tarmac roads and solid farm tracks. The route is designed to be mud-free and is marked with reflective signs for visibility.
Participants can choose between two main formats:
- 8hr Backyard Solo: A traditional backyard format where runners complete one lap per hour, every hour.
- 8hr Backyard Relay: Teams or individuals aim to complete as many laps as possible within the eight-hour limit.
The relay option is open to individuals, pairs, and teams of various sizes, including small teams (3-4 runners), medium teams (5-6 runners), and large teams (5-8 runners). Relay teams may choose to run their laps in synchronization with solo runners or start new laps as soon as they are ready.
The event site includes a changing tent, bag drop, and a medical team. While there are no water stations along the course itself, a refreshments station is located at the lap point, providing drinks and snacks such as Haribo and Tribe bars. On-site catering is also available for more substantial food. Participants receive chip-timed results and a bespoke medal upon finishing.
For those traveling to the venue, Ledbury train station is located 4 miles from the park. On-site camping is available on Friday and Saturday nights with access to hot showers, portable toilets, and drinking water, though no electricity hook-ups are provided.
