Eastnor Castle Backyard
The Eastnor Castle Backyard takes place within the private grounds of the Eastnor Castle Deer Park, located in the Malvern Hills National Landscape. The course consists of a 4.167 mile loop on a figure of 8 route. The terrain is composed of 60% tarmac, 20% stone tracks, and 20% grass, providing a mud-free running surface. Participants pass through green hills and parkland with views of Eastnor Castle and the British Camp hill fort.
The event offers several participation options:
- 8hr Backyard Solo: A 33.3 mile ultra marathon where runners must complete one loop every hour.
- 8hr Relay: For pairs or teams of 3-8 runners, operating in a continuous format.
In the solo backyard format, a new lap starts every hour on the hour. Runners who do not complete a lap within sixty minutes are withdrawn from the race. Solo participants cannot start a loop early to bank time. Relay teams may choose to follow the hourly start times or run continuously, as the hourly time limit does not apply to individual relay laps. However, the final lap for relay teams must be finished within the eight-hour limit to be counted towards the total distance.
The event site includes a drinks station at the lap point providing snacks such as fruit, chocolate, and cereal bars. Facilities on-site include toilets, a bag drop, a changing tent, and mobile catering. Camping is available for participants in their own tents or vehicles as an optional extra. The event is not suitable for buggy or canicross runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
