Eastern Oregon Half Marathon
The Eastern Oregon Half Marathon takes place in Spray, Oregon, offering participants a point-to-point course along the John Day River Valley. Established as the oldest half marathon in the state, the event coincides with the annual Spray Rodeo and parade. The route features a paved surface with a gradual twelve-foot rise in elevation between the start and finish lines.
Participants can choose from several distances and participation methods:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10K
- 5K
- Half Marathon Walkers (13.1 miles)
- Virtual options for the 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon
The half marathon begins near Service Creek on Highway 19, while the 5K and 10K start at designated intervals west of Spray. All races conclude in the town of Spray. While the course is open to traffic on Highway 19, participants run on the right side of the road along the river. Course support includes four liquid stations along the route and at the finish line, with portable restrooms located at Service Creek and the 10K start.
Transportation is provided via a bus departing from Spray School to drop runners at their respective starting lines. Walkers are responsible for arranging their own transportation to their start. On-site facilities include showers at the school and a fundraiser breakfast benefiting local high school athletics. Awards are issued to male and female winners across ten age categories, ranging from 13 and under to 80 and up. The overall top performers in the half marathon receive belt buckles, while 5K and 10K winners receive plaques. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
