About the Event
The Early Bird Triathlon & Duathlon takes place at Carleton University in Ottawa. This event serves as the season opener for multisport racing in Ontario, featuring a course along Colonel By Drive with views of the Rideau Canal, Dows Lake, and Lansdowne. A notable feature is the indoor swim held in a 50m pool, providing an alternative to open water swimming. Both the bike and run segments are conducted on roads closed to traffic.
Participants can choose from a wide range of event distances:
- Long Triathlon: 500m swim, 30km bike, 5km run.
- Sprint Triathlon: 500m swim, 20km bike, 5km run.
- Super Sprint Triathlon: 100m swim, 20km bike, 2.5km run.
- Try a Tri (Adult & Youth): 100m swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run.
- Long Duathlon: 5km run, 30km bike, 2.5km run.
- Sprint Duathlon: 5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run.
- Swim Cycle: 500m swim, 30km bike.
Registration provides professional timing, a personalized race bib, and on-course nutrition. Post-race amenities include snacks as well as access to massage, chiropractic, and physiotherapy services. Podium prizes are awarded to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers in their respective categories. The event also acts as a fundraiser for Safe Families Canada - Ottawa.
