The Event
The Early Bird Triathlon & Duathlon takes place in Ottawa on May 16. It is promoted as the first multisport event of the season in Ontario. The event is held on the Carleton University campus.
The Races
Eight different race formats are offered:
- Long Triathlon: 500m swim, 30km bike, 5km run
- Long Duathlon: 5km run, 30km bike, 2.5km run
- Sprint Duathlon: 5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run
- Swim Cycle: 500m swim, 30km bike
- Sprint Triathlon: 500m swim, 20km bike, 5km run
- Super Sprint Triathlon: 100m swim, 20km bike, 2.5km run
- Try a Tri (16+): 100m swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run
- Youth Try a Tri (15 and under): 100m swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run
The Course
The swim segment takes place in a 50m indoor pool. The bike and run courses are held on Colonel By Drive, a road closed to traffic, offering views of the Rideau Canal, Carleton University, Dows Lake, and Lansdowne.
Practical Information
Bib pickup is available on May 15 on campus and on race day starting at 7:00 AM. A virtual orientation video and an athlete handbook are provided online. Registration includes a swim cap, a personalized race bib, professional timing, on-course nutrition, and race photography. Post-race massage, chiropractic, and physiotherapy services are offered, along with snacks. Podium prizes are awarded to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers.
