About the race
The Durban International Marathon organises road races in Durban, including a full marathon and a 10 km event. The marathon distance is 42.2 km and the course starts at Prospecton Road and finishes at the Moses Mabhida Stadium People’s Tunnel. The event uses a 6 hour cutoff for the marathon and provides route and GPS data for participants.
Entry is by phased online registration that opens from September 2026, with Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 windows and differing entry fees including separate international rates. Only licensed athletes affiliated to a KZN Athletics club with a 2026 permanent licence number may enter the marathon; an R120 temporary licence applies only to elite or international athletes. Online entry options include Entry Ninja and Webtickets, and manual entries can be made at Pick n Pay stores.
Race packet collection and late-entry points are arranged in Pietermaritzburg at the Msunduzi Athletics Stadium and in Durban at The Globe, Suncoast Casino. A shuttle bus is offered at a cost of R120 per person with a pickup at Kings Park Swimming Pool to transport athletes to the start.
