Durango Marathon Weekend
The Durango Marathon weekend takes place on October 11, 2026 in Durango, Colorado, starting and finishing at Santa Rita Park along the Animas River Trail. The event includes road races over multiple distances and runs through the eastern side of town and along County Road 250.
Course highlights include expansive mountain views, colorful cottonwoods, quiet stretches of roadway, and a finish on the Animas River Trail. The courses start at about 6,500 feet above sea level and reach nearly 6,900 feet at their highest point; the broader elevation range for the event is approximately 6,400 to 6,900 feet. Cooler October temperatures are noted in course materials.
Distances offered
- 26.2 Miles full marathon on a road course returning on the Animas River Trail
- 13.1 Miles half marathon following the same general route as the full
- 5 Kilometers out-and-back on the Animas River Trail, nearly flat
Time limits are stated for the longer races: 6.5 hours for the marathon and 4.5 hours for the half marathon. Aid stations are placed approximately every 3 to 5 miles on the marathon and half marathon courses and will provide water, electrolyte drink, and sweet and salty snacks. Turnaround aid stations will include restroom facilities. The 5K has one aid station at the 1.5 mile turnaround and snacks available at the finish area.
