Dulles 5K/10K on the Runway
The event is a running race held at Washington Dulles Airport near the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. Runners use the airport runway and a certified looped course that runs past aircraft and along the actual landing strip. The 10K course covers the entire length of the runway; the final half mile uses a connector off the airstrip so runners clear the runway before it reopens for aircraft.
Logistics include free parking at the Udvar-Hazy Center parking lot, a bag drop near the starting area using the provided packet bag, and planned water stations along the course. Participants are expected to complete the course before the runway is reopened for airport operations. Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted if they can complete the course before the runway reopens. All participants must register online in advance; there is a field limit of 2,500 runners.
Registration fees vary by date: early rates through May 31, higher rates through July 31, and a final tier until sellout. Participants who register before August 1, 2026, are guaranteed event tech shirts; all finishers receive a finisher's medal. Awards are given by overall gender and by age group, and top finishers receive certificates from United Airlines plus a weekend overnight stay at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott. Free high-resolution race photos will be available for download and post-race refreshments are provided by the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott.
