Duff Dog Backyard Ultra
The Duff Dog Backyard Ultra is scheduled for October 10, 2026 near Luverne, MN at Blue Mounds State Park. The format is a backyard ultra, commonly described as a last runner standing style event where participants run repeated loops until only one runner completes an additional loop.
The course is a loop measured at 4 miles 880 feet (metric 6.7056 kilometers). The route uses the established trail system at the park and is approximately 95% grass with some gravel and a short paved section. The starting area is a measured corral sized to fit the entire field and the corral remains the same size throughout the event; participants must be in the corral at the bell.
A runner support area includes shade and a shelter building. Nearby camping is available close to the course for family and friends.
Key race rules include: each loop begins precisely one hour after the last with three short warnings before the bell; loops must be completed within an hour to count; competitors may not leave the course during a loop except for restrooms; no non-competitors or eliminated runners are allowed on the course; no personal aid is permitted during a loop though common aid stations are allowed; no artificial aids including trekking poles; timing of loops is optional.
