Buddy Walk
The Buddy Walk is an annual community event hosted by the Down Syndrome Network of Onslow & Carteret Counties (DSNOCC). It continues a national tradition that began in 1995 and has been held locally since 2012. The event features a gentle one mile walk on a smooth, family-friendly route at the Jacksonville Commons Recreation Complex in Jacksonville, NC on October 24, 2026.
The walk is stroller-, wheelchair-, and walker-friendly and welcomes participants of all ages. Onsite activities include lawn games, music, refreshments, a silent auction, and vendor booths. Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair or blanket, a shade tent if needed, weather-appropriate gear, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes.
The Buddy Walk serves as DSNOCC’s largest annual fundraiser. Funds raised support local programs and services such as welcome baskets for new and expectant families, mini-grants, scholarships, hardship assistance, community events, advocacy, and school support. The event offers opportunities for families, friends, schools, businesses, and community partners to connect and to support resources for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
The event description emphasizes accessibility, family-focused activities, and the role of fundraising in sustaining DSNOCC programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
