About the race

The Dromtrasna Challenge is an annual charity event in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick, that raises funds for Milford Care Centre. The event starts and finishes at Dromtrasna National School and uses mapped routes through West Limerick farmland. Runs are chip-timed and finishers receive bespoke medals; one medal design for 2026 is inspired by a local historic well.

Multiple participation options are offered:

  • 10K run, chip-timed, full loop
  • 5K run, chip-timed, shorter turn
  • 4K walk, leisure pace, buggy and dog friendly
  • 2K kids run, short supervised route near the school

The terrain is mixed road through scenic farmland with a mixture of downhill, flat and some hills. Water stations are positioned along the 10K and 5K routes. The route is stewarded from start to finish and local volunteers and sponsors support event logistics. After the event, hot food and refreshments are served at the school for participants. Free parking is available at the school and in nearby community areas, with steward instructions in place.

The event has taken place since 2014 and attracts many local participants each year. Proceeds from the event are directed to local healthcare services, with past fundraising totals published. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
