Dromtrasna Challenge

The Dromtrasna Challenge is an annual charity running and walking event in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick, held every October since 2014. Proceeds support Milford Care Centre and St. Ita's Community Hospital and are used for local healthcare services. The event raises funds through community fundraising and race entries; in 2025 the community raised €34,145.63.

Distances and event types:

  • 10K Run : chip timed, full loop, medals and perpetual cup for top finishers.
  • 5K Run : chip timed, shorter route, trophies for top finishers and medals.
  • 4K Walk : leisure pace, buggy and dog friendly, finisher medals.
  • 2K Kids Run : supervised fun run for children, medals for all.

The course starts and finishes at Dromtrasna National School, Abbeyfeale. Routes run on mixed road through farmland and include challenging hills. The 10K follows the full loop, the 5K takes a shorter turn, and the 4K walk uses a separate scenic path. Water stations are provided along the 10K and 5K routes, and refreshments are available at the finish area.

The event features chip timing for competitive races and finisher medals for all participants. Local businesses and volunteer stewards support parking and event logistics. The event is presented as a community fundraising activity that benefits local healthcare services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
