Event overview

The Dragonfly Challenge is a six-hour running event organised by Big Bear Events on 29 April 2026. Participants complete as many laps as they wish within a six-hour time limit; walking or hiking is allowed. Entry is open to people aged 16 and over. The event operates tiered pricing: an early rate of £37 before 28/03/2026 and £42 after that date. Unaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. The organiser has an on-demand option that lets participants run the route on a different day and receive the event medal by post.

Course and logistics

The course is described as a mixture of open grassland and parkland pathways, mostly flat with a notable climb to the Golden Tower of Leaves and an on-site statue. The site is a former coal mine with numerous ponds. Parking is available on site and costs up to £3.50; a cafe and toilet block are next to the event headquarters. Dogs are not allowed. Rucking is permitted. A GPX file of the route is available. The event offers either a traditional medal or a Big Bear Tree Token, for which a tree is planted and the token contains wildflower seeds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
