Dragonfly Challenge

The Dragonfly Challenge is a six hour timed event held at Pooley Country Park, Tamworth, organised by Big Bear Events. The format uses repeated laps of a marked circuit so participants choose how many laps to complete within the time limit.

The course is a mixture of open grassland and parkland pathways with one noticeable climb to the Golden Tower of Leaves. Most of the route is flat; the site is a former coal mine with several ponds and pools on and around the course.

Entry uses a tiered pricing approach and the organiser notes different price bands at different times; unaffiliated entrants pay an additional £2 and members of the Big Bear Brigade may receive a permanent entry discount. There is a charity partnership with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and entrants can opt to donate during registration. As an alternative to a medal, a tree-planting token filled with wildflower seeds is offered through a partnership with Earth Runs.

Facilities on site include a cafe and a toilet block adjacent to the event HQ. Parking is available on site and can cost up to £3.50 depending on stay length. The park is on the outskirts of Tamworth, about 10 minutes from Junction 10 of the M42; the closest train station is Polesworth.

The organiser provides a GPX of the route and offers an on demand option via a guided app where the event medal can be posted to the participant. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
