Event Overview

The Dragonfly Challenge is a timed running event with a 6-hour duration. Participants decide how far they run by completing as many laps of a 5.3 km (3.3-mile) course as they wish within the time limit. This means the total distance can range from one lap to over 50 miles.

Course Details

The event takes place at Pooley Country Park in Tamworth (B78 1JA). The course is a mixture of open grassland and parkland pathways. It is described as not technically difficult but includes a noticeable climb up to the Golden Tower of Leaves statue. The rest of the course is mostly flat. The park features several ponds, as it is located on a former coal mine site. Parking on-site costs up to £3.50, and there is a cafe and toilet block next to the event headquarters.

Pricing and Format

Entry fees operate on a tiered system: £37 before March 28, 2026, and £42 after. Unaffiliated runners pay an extra £2. Participants can choose to receive a traditional finisher's medal and refreshments or opt for a Tree Token from Earth Runs, which results in a tree being planted and contains wildflower seeds.

The event format is designed to accommodate different goals, from a single lap to a long training run. Rucking (walking with a weighted backpack) is permitted, but running with dogs is not allowed. This is the first time the event will be held at Pooley Country Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
