Dragon Fly Triathlon & AquaBike : event description
The 36th Annual Dragon Fly Triathlon & AquaBike takes place at Cypress Point on the Lower Lake of Sardis Lake Reservoir in Sardis, Mississippi. The event offers sprint and Olympic triathlon distances, aquabike options, relay teams, Athena and Clydesdale divisions, and a physically challenged division.
Available triathlon distances include:
- 1500 meter swim, 40K bike, 10K run
- 750 meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run
Aquabike options correspond to the swim and bike segments of the above distances and include a 750 meter swim with a 20K bike and a 1500 meter swim with a 40K bike. Relay entries include team captain and team member roles. The physically challenged division may use an alternative run routing that can be two 2.5 km pavement laps or a 2.5 km trail and 2.5 km pavement combination.
The event hosts the Mississippi Age Group and High School State Championships. Age group nationals qualification is the top 35% or the top five finishers in an age group, whichever is greater. Olympic-distance Nationals qualification must come from the Olympic-distance state race and Sprint Nationals qualification must come from the sprint state race. High school awards include overall club scoring and overall club participation; all high school athletes who finish any state high school championship automatically qualify for Sprint-distance nationals provided they are at least 15 years old by December 31, 2026. Club scoring follows standard cross-country scoring where the lowest point total wins. USAT will notify qualified athletes after results are submitted through the sanctioning process.
Course notes: the swim uses a sandy beach entrance and exit. The bike course passes through farmland and is largely flat. The run includes pavement and trails. Finishers receive medals. Food provided includes pizza, watermelon, chips, and chocolate milk by Prairie Farms. Awards are given to overall female and male, age groups, and relays. Packet pickup is scheduled on the days prior to and the morning of the event at Bikes Plus in Germantown, TN and at the race site at Cypress Creek Point, Lower Lake Sardis, Sardis, MS.
