Event overview
The Dorset Hillfort Ultra is an off-road long-distance running event based in Maiden Newton, Dorset. The course covers about 35.9 miles with approximately 1,300 m of ascent. The route is mainly on public rights of way with a small amount on quiet roads; around 80% is off road on turf and tracks that may be uneven, muddy or hard-baked. Cut-off times are calculated on a 10 hour finish. Entries are transferable; refunds are not available.

- 5 miles - water available at Eggardon Hill
- 10 miles - aid station beyond Uploders
- 17.5 miles - Abbotsbury Castle area (timing point at 17 miles)
- 22 miles - drinks station at Hardy Monument
- 28 miles - Maiden Castle refreshment stop (timing point at 27 miles)
- 31.5 miles - final aid station at Muckleford
There are six intermediate stations in total. Water and squash are available at all controls; runners must refill their own containers. Cake, flapjack and some dietary options (gluten free, vegan) are provided if notified in advance; sandwiches are available at Maiden Castle. A doctor will be at one of the later controls.
Navigation files (GPX), maps and turn-by-turn notes will be provided. Marshalls will be stationed at busy crossings but runners remain responsible for crossing safely. Recommended minimum kit includes an emergency snack, a charged mobile phone, waterproof jacket and hat, and a personal water bottle or hydration pack. Gates must be closed behind runners and the Countryside Code must be followed. Free on-street parking and WCs are available near the start and finish.
