Doringrivier Circuit 15km Hike
The Doringrivier Circuit is a 15 km hike near Bomate in Matabeleland North Province. The route reaches a peak with approximately 724–769 m elevation and follows a circular line back to the starting point. The hike takes around six hours to complete and is given a rating of 7/10.
The vegetation along the trail is fynbos that was protected during the 2018 wildfires that burned 108,000 ha, and the area is described as pristine. The route offers comprehensive panoramic views of the Outeniqua Mountains from the north. Water is available from rivers in the valley, and the group pauses at the peak for refreshments and to take in the views before the descent.
Venture Butik requires a compulsory Emergency Kit for all hikes. Required items include a suitable lightweight hydration pack or backpack, 1 to 2 litres of water, sunscreen, a hat, proper hiking or trail shoes, trail snacks, a lightweight windproof jacket or fleece, and a beanie and gloves depending on the weather; a waterproof jacket is also recommended.
