Dizzy Horse Backyard Ultra

Dizzy Horse is a winter backyard ultra held on January 8, 2027. The event uses a repeating 4.167 miles loop that participants must complete once each hour; the competition continues until only one runner completes a loop more than all others and is declared the winner. The race is open ended by time.

The course mixes desert, grass, an active and an abandoned horse race track, graveled road, small sections of asphalt and stretches of sand. Laps typically include about 40 to 80 feet of elevation gain. Water is available on course at the two mile mark.

All entrants have access to a general indoor transition area near the Bonneville County Fairgrounds exhibition hall. An upgrade offers a reserved 10 by 10 foot indoor space where runners and crew can set up additional gear. A basic aid station provides water; a Deluxe Aid Station upgrade offers scheduled hot and cold foods and an expanded drink selection available for non-runners who purchase access during set hours.

Key rules state that loops start precisely one hour apart, competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell, no personal aid is allowed while on a loop, and crew may assist only after a runner finishes a lap and before the next loop begins. Entry details include an early registration fee that covers race entry, basic aid station, general indoor access and a DNF award. The event has sold out in prior years.
