Dirty Bird 10 Mile Trail Race
The Dirty Bird is a 10 mile off-road race held on February 7, 2027 at French Creek State Park, Pool Area, 843 Park Rd, Elverson, PA. For 2027 the event uses a mid-winter date, a covered start and finish location, and registration placed close to heated bathrooms.
The course begins with a short paved road section before entering a slightly rolling trail loop. About 80% of the course is on rocky trails, 17% on dirt road and 3% on paved road. The route includes roots, rocks and occasional downed trees, three primary hills spaced along the course, long runnable sections, and wildlife typical of the park. Organizers may alter the course or distance if trail or weather conditions require protection of the trails.
Registration is online only and open until midnight on the Wednesday of race week, with a nominal service fee. Race day entry accepts cash or check only due to limited cell and internet service in the park. Fee options include entry with a shirt or without a shirt; early and late registration pricing differ and no mailing of shirts or awards is offered. No refunds. The event normally runs in most weather but may be postponed by the park for severe conditions; a postponed race is scheduled for the following Saturday pending park approval.
Amenities and services include heated bathrooms near registration, convenient parking, two water stops, instant results and posted results by the next business day. Teens may enter only with a parent or legal guardian present. Pets are permitted under strict conditions, including a very short leash and keeping toward the back for the first quarter mile.
