Event Overview
The Des Moines Women's Race is a multi-distance running event held in Des Moines, Iowa. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2026, the weekend features several road races designed for women and girls of all ages. The event schedule is spread across two days, with activities on Saturday evening and various race distances on Sunday morning.
Course Details
The half marathon course begins with a lap through the high-rise buildings of downtown Des Moines and transitions to one of the city's urban parks. Participants run through the downtown arboretum while it is in bloom and complete a loop relative to Gray’s Lake. The 10 km course follows a similar path, crossing two bridges inside Gray’s Lake and passing through the Arie den Boer Arboretum. The Saturday 5 km event is organized as a community outing and includes pre-race activities such as yoga and meditation on the lawn.
Distance Options
- Half Marathon (21.1 km): The signature Sunday race through downtown neighborhoods and lakeside parks.
- 3-Person Team Relay: Teammates each run 6-8 km of the half marathon course before exchanging at designated zones.
- 10 km: A Sunday morning race following the primary course through the arboretum.
- 5 km: A Saturday evening event for all ages, including youth participation.
- The Double: A challenge for participants to complete the 5 km on Saturday plus either the 10 km or Half Marathon on Sunday.
Schedule and Amenities
Packet pick-up is available on both Saturday and Sunday. Participants in the team relay have access to specific parking areas near Jasper Winery.
