Event Overview
The Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K is an annual running event held in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Since its inception in 2011, the event has served to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. The 2026 edition takes place at 250 City Park Dr. and features both in-person and virtual participation options.
The event offers several categories for the 5K distance, including dedicated divisions for law enforcement personnel and non-law enforcement participants. Specialized categories for those running with plate carriers and a stroller division are also available. For younger participants, the event includes a 1K race specifically for children aged 12 and under.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5K - available for law enforcement, general runners, plate carriers, and strollers.
- 1K - a dedicated race for children aged 12 and under.
- Virtual 5K - an option for participants to complete the distance remotely.
Proceeds from the registration fees are managed by the Hotsinpiller Foundation. These funds are used to provide scholarships for individuals pursuing or advancing careers in law enforcement, supporting local police agencies, and offering assistance to injured officers and their families. Those participating in the virtual format have the option to purchase an event t-shirt with shipping included. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
