Delta Junction Barley Half Marathon
The Delta Junction Barley Half Marathon is a non-profit trail race hosted by the Alaska Flour Company in Delta Junction, Alaska, benefiting the Delta High School Booster Club. The course starts near the Alaska Flour Company barley mill and follows a loop of gravel roads and dirt trails through local agricultural lands. There are no paved roads on the course.
The route is described as relatively flat with a few minor hills, but runners should expect uneven terrain and possible muddy sections. Several long straightaways pass fields of barley and fireweed and offer sustained views of nearby mountains. The event uses professional chip timing and provides aid stations every few miles. All entrants receive a T-shirt; the top three male and female finishers receive trophies. Overall male and female champions also receive a gift certificate for a cabin and canoe rental at Tangle Lakes Lodge on the Denali Highway.
The race is open to participants aged ten and older. Youth participants aged 19 and younger receive a $15 discount off the adult entry fee. Active duty service members may take $15 off their entry fee with the coupon code MILITARY. Walkers are welcome and the event has a generous time limit of 4.5 hours to complete the course. Post-race festivities and recovery food and beverages are provided at the mill. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
