DeLeon Dash 5K
The DeLeon Dash is an annual 5K event held at DeLeon Springs State Park. The course takes participants through varied terrain inside and around the park grounds. Runners and walkers navigate a route that includes sidewalks, paved roads, dirt roads, and unpaved trails. The path passes several park landmarks, including the spring pool, the Old Sugar Mill, and areas with large oak trees and forest scenery.
Participants have two primary options for involvement:
- 5K Run and Walk: A chip-timed 3.1-mile race located on-site at the state park.
- Virtual 5K: An option for those unable to attend in person, allowing participants to complete the distance independently and submit results online.
The event is limited to a maximum of 300 entries. Registered participants receive a race shirt and a finisher's medal. On-site race features include water stations along the course and at the finish line, as well as digital timing tags attached to bibs for searchable online results. Awards are provided for overall finishers and specific age groups.
The state park environment offers several facilities for use after the event, such as a nature trail, a playground, a visitor center, and a swimming area in the spring pool. Other available activities include boat rentals, paddleboards, and eco-history tours. Proceeds from the event benefit the Friends of DeLeon Springs State Park. For those attending the physical race, parking is available within the park, and no pets or animals are permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
