Event Overview

Delaware Trail Fest is a trail running event at Lums Pond State Park in Bear, Delaware. The event uses a special age-grading formula so that every runner, regardless of age or gender, can compete to win.

Distances

Participants can choose from several formats:

  • 12 Hour Lone Wolf: Run as many laps as possible within a 12-hour time limit. Each lap is approximately 7.35 miles.
  • 12 Hour 4 Person Relay: Teams of four run as many laps as possible within 12 hours, with only one runner at a time. Runners must alternate.
  • 24KM: A two-lap course around the lake.
  • 12KM: A one-lap course around the lake. All distances are described as hiker-friendly.

Course Details

The course is approximately 70% single track, 10% gravel, and 20% wider trails. It features little elevation with many flat sections and a few rolling trails. As of the information provided, the event plans to use the Swamp Forest Trail, with possible small adjustments to avoid wet sections. Runners must finish by 7:30 PM, and a headlamp is required for the final loop. Aid stations are spaced 3 to 4 miles apart, offering water, Gatorade, and typical trail race food.

Registration & Logistics

Bib and swag pickup is on race day only, starting at 6:30 AM at the start/finish area near Lums Pond State Park, Area 1. The event is chip-timed. Registration fees vary by distance, with lower prices available before September 18, 2026. Refunds are available up to 30 days before race day, minus a $10 processing fee.

Participant Perks

Every runner receives a sweatshirt with the event logo. 12KM and 24KM finishers also get a custom finisher hat. 12 Hour Lone Wolf runners receive a special milestone award from Germany for reaching 26.2 miles, 50 miles, or 100 kilometers. Special awards are given for the top 10 overall and top 10 age/gender-adjusted finishers in the 12 Hour Lone Wolf, 24KM, and 12KM events, and for the top five 4-person relay teams.

Post-Race

A "Trail Kitchen" with two chefs will be open from approximately 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM to serve runners. An award ceremony is estimated to start within 30 minutes of the last finisher. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
