Défi des Escaliers offers several races that climb and descend the staircases linking Lower Town and Upper Town in Quebec City. The start and finish site for 2026 is Parc de l'Esplanade. The event is sanctioned ARGENT by Athlétisme Québec.
- 19 km Fizz : ~40 staircases, 2353 steps, age 14+, time limit 4h00
- 14 km : ~30 staircases, 2163 steps, age 10+, time limit 3h00
- 9 km : ~20 staircases, 1106 steps, age 10+, time limit 2h30
- 4 km : 13 staircases, 520 steps, age 10+, time limit 2h00
- 2 km (kids) : age 5 to 12, time limit 30 minutes
Courses alternate between uphill and downhill stair sections and finish downtown. Route maps and elevation profiles are available and the Sportstats mobile app provides detailed courses by distance.
