About the race
The Deep Creek Backyard Ultra is a solo backyard‑style trail running event held in Cairncross State Forest, starting 31 October 2026. Runners complete repeated 6.71 km loops, called "yards", with each loop to be finished within one hour. Loops repeat every hour until only one runner completes the final loop; if the final runner does not finish alone the event ends with no solo winner. The course is looped and runner-driven with no on-course aid stations.
Support is concentrated at the event hub where runners may set up a personal 3×3 m support tent and receive crew assistance between loops. A basic aid station in the Dead Zone offers water, electrolytes, chips, and lollies for uncrewed runners, and a food trailer will sell hot food and drinks around the clock. Mandatory gear and race rules apply, and the event operates a zero-tolerance policy for personal audio devices to protect safety and local wildlife. The event notes an elevation change of 125 m per loop.
Entry fees vary by field size: A$150 for 1–50 runners, A$175 for 51–100 runners, and A$200 for 101–150+ runners. Registration is available online. The event format emphasizes repeated hour-long loops, weather preparation for day and night conditions, and self-managed recovery between yards.
