Death Valley Trail Marathon and Half Marathon : Event details

The event offers two distances

• Marathon
• Half marathon

Both races take place on a single dirt road through Titus Canyon in Death Valley National Park. The start and finish are at the west end of Titus Canyon where it intersects Scotty's Castle Road. The half marathon runs into the canyon to an aid station at approximately mile 6.5 and returns to the finish. The marathon continues to an 8 mile turnaround, returns to the mile 13 aid station, continues to a mile 18 turnaround, and returns to the finish.

Course details include a 6 hour cutoff time with target paces stated for marathon and half marathon participants. Course markings are not required because the route follows the road. Aid stations for the marathon are at approximately miles 3, 6.5, 9.5, 13, 16.5, 19.5, and 23; half marathon aid stations are at miles 3, 6.5, and 9.5. Aid stations provide water, lemonade, sports bars, and various snacks; energy gels are not provided and wrappers must be disposed of at aid stations. Private aid or support along the trail is not permitted.

Additional logistics: portable toilets at start or finish and at approximately miles 3, 13, and 23; parking near the Ranch at Furnace Creek; bus shuttles between Furnace Creek Ranch and the race start. The event is limited to 200 participants due to park rules. Registrations are non refundable; if the race is cancelled a credit toward a future race will be issued.
