About the race
The Death Valley Borax event on January 30, 2027 is a road running event in Death Valley National Park at Furnace Creek offering the following distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10K
The course is on Westside Road in the Badwater Basin. The National Park Service has permitted use of the northern end of the road. The half marathon and 10K are a single out and back; the marathon runs that route twice. The turnaround is within a few miles of the lowest point in North America at -282 feet and located beneath Telescope Peak. The course is on a single track and the lowest point on the course is -265 feet; the start and finish are essentially at sea level.
Aid stations and portable toilets are placed at approximately miles 3, 6.5, 10, 13, 16, 19.5, and 23 on the marathon course; half marathon stations follow the same locations up to mile 13. Aid stations are stocked with water, lemonade, sports bars, and a variety of sweet and salty snacks. Energy gels are not provided; participants should carry preferred nutrition and dispose of wrappers at aid stations. No private support is allowed.
The field is limited to 250 participants under park rules. The course cut off is 6 hours. Buses shuttle participants between Furnace Creek Ranch and the race start. Parking is available at the Oasis Resort at Furnace Creek. All registered participants receive T shirts; finisher medals are awarded for the marathon and half marathon and age group awards are given.
