Deadman Peaks Trail Run
The Deadman Peaks Trail Run takes place near Cuba, New Mexico and follows sections of the Continental Divide Trail through the Rio Puerco Valley. The course passes through pinon forest, hoodoos, badlands and mesas with expansive high desert views and volcanic plugs such as Cabezon Peak. Elevation on the course ranges roughly between 6,350 and 7,400 ft.
The event uses mostly single track with some jeep trails and varied surfaces including sand, rocks and slick rock. The start and finish are located on Highway 197, four miles west of Highway 550 near Cuba.
Distances and turn points:
- 53 miles out and back starting near Cuba and heading south toward Cabezon Peak
- 55K follows the 53 mile route but turns at La Ventana Remote aid station
- 30K climbs the mesa then turns at Portales aid station
- 10 miles out and back
The 53 mile entry permits a pacer from the turnaround back to the finish. All runners receive a custom race bib, t shirt and finisher medal. The event supports the Continental Divide Trail. Registration closes November 5 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time, there are no refunds, and bib transfers are allowed until October 31 for the same distance.
