Deadfall 25K and companion distances at Brighton Recreation Area
Deadfall comprises three trail race distances held entirely within Brighton Recreation Area and starts and finishes at the lakeshore. The event passes through a mix of singletrack, glacial ridges, hardwood ridgelines, dense pine stands, and quiet lake shorelines. Trail surfaces include root-covered corners, technical sections, flowing descents, and steep punchy climbs, with fall foliage framing much of the route.
The course uses sections of the Penosha Trail, Torn Shirt Trail, Murray Lake Trail, Kachin Trail, and Bishop Lake area trail systems to create each distance. Distances offered:
- 10K
- 18K
- 25K
All three distances share a five hour cutoff. For the 25K this equates to a required average pace of just over 19 minutes per mile to finish within the time limit.
The event is organized by Blackwood Trail Racing and is presented as an inaugural running. Race-day logistics include clearly marked courses, well-stocked aid stations, volunteers, event shirts included with registration, and finisher medals awarded to participants who complete their distance within the cutoff. Top overall finishers in each race receive a pair of Altra shoes provided by the title sponsor. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
