Event overview
Dead Cow Gully is a Backyard Ultra running event scheduled for 30 May 2026. The race uses the Backyard Ultra format: participants run a loop of about 6.7 km each hour and must complete the loop within the hour. The sequence repeats every hour until only one participant remains. Runners stop for three main reasons: failing to complete the loop within the hour, failing to start the next loop on time, or choosing to withdraw.
Location and course
The event is held on a 1600-acre cattle property 11 km north of Nanango, Queensland. The property includes the Iona homestead, which is over 110 years old. The terrain is mainly timbered ridges that descend into partially cleared creek flats. Cattle are present on the property and some gullies run dry.
