Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra
Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra is an endurance race held on May 30, 2026, on a rural Queensland cattle property 11 km north of Nanango. The event follows the Backyard Ultra format: runners must complete a 6.706 km loop within each hour and return to the start for the next loop. The sequence continues hour by hour until only one runner remains. Runners leave the race if they do not complete a loop in time, fail to make the next start line, or choose to stop.
The course sits on a 1600 acre, sixth generation cattle property that includes the Iona homestead, which is over 110 years old. The landscape is mainly timbered ridges that descend into partially cleared creek flats. The location is named Dead Cow Gully after an incident in a creek area. Distances shown are cumulative examples based on repeated loops:
- 6.706 km : 1 loop
- 40.2 km : 6 loops
- 100.5 km : 15 loops
- 160.9 km : 24 loops
- 798 km : 119 loops
The format emphasises repeated hourly loops on rural terrain and the endurance of completing successive laps until a single finisher remains. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
