David Staff Memorial Fell Race
The David Staff Memorial Fell Race is a Category AS fell race held on the West Pennine Moors above Darwen, Lancashire. The course covers approximately 6 km with about 305 m of ascent. The event base is at The Kiosk in Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen.
The route starts on the main path opposite The Kiosk, turns left at the bandstand and leaves the wood via the Lychgate carpark next to the Sunnyhurst pub. Runners follow a section to Waterman's Cottage, then take a concrete path up onto the moors and continue to Darwen Tower before looping across the moorland. The return descent follows the same line back into the woods via the pub, with the finish at the bandstand.
Entry information for the listed year shows entries opening on 23 March and closing on 14 November 2026. Minimum age to enter is 14 years. The organiser lists separate entry fees for FRA members and non-members.
The race is held in memory of David Staff and is used to raise funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young. Funds from this event contribute to heart screening programmes aimed at identifying heart defects in young people. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
