David Staff Memorial Fell Race
The event is a Category AS fell race on the West Pennine Moors above Darwen, Lancashire. The course is approximately 6 km with about 305 m of ascent and runs from Sunnyhurst Woods, with registration at The Kiosk and a finish at the bandstand.
The route starts on the main path opposite The Kiosk, turns left at the bandstand, and leaves the wood via the Lychgate carpark beside The Sunnyhurst pub. Runners proceed right toward Waterman's Cottage, then left up a concrete path to Darwen Tower and across the moors. The descent returns by the same line into the woods and through the pub area to finish at the bandstand.
The event is organised by the Darwen Dashers running club and is held in memory of a club member. Proceeds support the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young; funds raised have helped provide heart screening and have identified heart defects in more than 60 people. Organiser fundraising for this cause has exceeded £100,000.
