David Staff Memorial Fell Race
The David Staff Memorial Fell Race is a Category AS fell race around the West Pennine Moors above Darwen, Lancashire. The course is about 6 km long with approximately 305 m of climb. The event base and registration are at The Kiosk in Sunnyhurst Woods and the finish is at the bandstand.
The route starts on the main path opposite The Kiosk, turns left at the bandstand and leaves the wood via the Lychgate carpark next to The Sunnyhurst pub. Competitors then turn right to Waterman's Cottage, turn left up a concrete path, climb to Darwen Tower and follow the moors before descending back into the woods via the pub and finishing at the bandstand.
Minimum age for entry is 14 years. Entry fees are shown as FRA member £7.50 and non member £8.50. Entries open 23 March 2026 and close 14 November 2026.
The race is run in memory of a young runner and raises funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young. Funds are used to provide heart screening for young people; over 60 people have had heart defects identified and over £100,000 has been raised to date.
